Diplomas and Certificates awarded by Calamus Extension College (UK)

University Diplomas, Certificates and Postgraduate Diplomas awarded by Calamus International University, Vanuatu

Certificates and Diplomas are available as either UK or overseas awards. The overseas (CIU-Vanuatu) awards may have the words "University" or "Postgraduate" as part of their title.

The usage of the words "certificate" and "diploma" differs in different English-speaking regions. In the UK and Australia, a "diploma" is generally regarded to be of higher standard than a "certificate", though there is no hard and fast rule in Britain as neither qualification name is regulated in the UK and many private UK bodies award certificates and diplomas with varying lengths and content.  In the USA, a "diploma" normally means either a high school qualification or the piece of paper that a degree is printed on, and "certificate" is the desired title for a professional or postgraduate non-degree qualification.

The designatory letters used by diploma holders normally begin with “Dip.” or sometimes just begin with the letter D in the UK. However in the USA, D at the start of a qualification normally stands for “Doctor” so Dip. is the preferable style. 

Since we have students from all continents, we cater the title of the award to individual needs, and therefore students can receive a "certificate" or a "diploma" depending on whichever is the more acceptable for their purposes and location. 

Diplomas may be taken on their own, or as a way of sampling Calamus distance learning before proceeding to a Calamus International University (Vanuatu) degree course.  Credit towards CIU degrees will be given for all certificates/diplomas.

Accelerated University Certificate in Life and Personal Coaching  

(revised 2011 brochure available - further updates expected October 2011)

 

The Accelerated University Certificate in Life and Personal Coaching is for those who have professional qualifications in clinical psychology, psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, NLP, stress management or counselling OR who have a CIU B.A. or M.A. in counselling psychology, personal development, change agent studies, stress management, organisational spirituality, transpersonal or depth psychology, or an equivalent degree. The accelerated programme is taught in 5 modules covering two major coaching models and introducing a variety of coaching techniques. As well as these five modules, an extended integrative essay is required.  This CIU coaching programme is by distance learning only and is delivered by correspondence and email (there are no teleclasses). Academic credit and a tuition fee discount will be given to students who wish to proceed to a Calamus International University degree course later on.  Awarding body:  Calamus International University (Vanuatu)

 

This course is also available as a UK qualification awarded by Calamus Extension College, London.

 

 

Postgraduate Diploma in Ecotourism and Sustainable Development

 

The Postgraduate Diploma in Ecotourism and Sustainable Development consists of studies of the management, history and politics of ecotourism in the following key regions:  The Galapagos Islands, Costa Rica, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Kenya, South Africa and the United States.  A project may be submitted relevant to the student’s own country/region or another area.  Graduates will be able to understand the issues relevant to sustainable development in tourist hotspots and the implications for business, local people and for holidaymakers. Diplomas and Postgraduate Diplomas - Various Fields

 

Most Master's programmes validated by CIU are also available in shorter versions as Diplomas   If you are interested in a diploma course at postgraduate level, please enquire stating your subject area and interests.  Please note that you do not have to have a degree to enrol for a postgraduate diploma course. Postgraduate diplomas will be non-UK qualifications only.

  • Diploma or Certificate in Holistic Studies

  • Diploma or Certificate in Depth Psychology

  • Diploma or Certificate in Social Studies

  • Diploma or Certificate in Transpersonal Psychology

  • Diploma or Certificate in Independent/Interdisciplinary Studies

 

Diplomas are not available in (classical) music.  Diplomas in Contemporary Voice (pop/rock singing) are run separately by VIDLA

Advanced Diplomas and Certificates

 

If you wish to continue to take further non-degree studies in the same field, an "Advanced" Diploma or Certificate is then available.

 

Normally the Certificate or Diploma will require 18 credits and be comprised of 6 x 3-credit course units or equivalent.  The exact units will be decided after enrolment in consultation with the student, as the syllabus is customised for the individual student according to background and needs.

 

 

Fees for Diplomas and Certificates

 

From 2011 we have introduced a new low rate of fee for certificates/diplomas as follows:

 

Calamus Extension College Ltd. - UK certificate or diploma                  GBP (Pounds Sterling)  350.00

Calamus International University - non-UK certificate or diploma          GBP (Pounds Sterling ) 450.00

 

Calamus certificate and diplomas holders going on to register for a CIU non-UK degree will receive a discount of GBP 100 off the fee for the degree course.  If you intend to study for a degree, it will be more economical to enrol directly for the degree course without doing the diploma first.

 

Certificates and diplomas will require textbooks (typically 6 books per qualification) and students are responsible for acquiring their own books. Cost of textbooks is not included in tuition fees.
